Giovanni da Verrazzano had goals for finding passages to China and far east and he was funded by KIng Franios I of France. In the process though he found new lands for France and set his mind to go back again. He lost two of his ships on his first expedition. Giovanni's brother also traveled with him and he was mapmaker, Giovanni helped make more detailed maps with his achievements. Although he died at the hands of natives he is still remembered in New York with a bridge that is named after him: "The Verrazzano's" .
